Federal Furloughs to Affect Tricare and Veterans Affairs

The Defense Department has announced that most of its civilian employees will be subject to up to 11 mandatory furlough days, or roughly one furlough day a week through October. Because this amounts to roughly a 20% staffing cut at most DOD civilian offices, the Garretson Resolution Group expects these furloughs to impact – and in fact extend – the claims processing timeframes at Tricare and Veterans Affairs. Although GRG staff will continue to work to resolve veterans’ medical liens as quickly as possible, the staffing changes will likely mean that claims may take longer than usual to process.
