Does Medicare have to pay any of the attorney fees and costs associated with my individual settlement?

In individual cases, Medicare will reduce or offset its lien for part of what’s called “procurement costs.” Procurement costs are the costs typically incurred pursuing a personal injury claims (such as court costs, attorney’s fees, and other case expenses). This reduction only applies in cases where beneficiaries recover damages from a liable third party. If you receive payment from your own insurance company – through auto, medical or no-fault coverage, this procurement reduction will NOT apply.
