What happens if I ignore Medicare's lien in my case?

In individual cases, once a final lien amount is agreed upon, it must be paid within 60 days or interest will be added to the unpaid balance. If Medicare’s demand for payment is ignored, it will be referred to the U.S. Treasury Department for collection. If you do not respond to the U.S. Treasury’s collection request, your government checks or benefits will be reduced by a percentage of the amount of money owed Medicare. The government will deduct a part of its lien from your benefit checks until the lien is totally paid off.
